New Cryptocurrency 'Mogg Coin' Provides Jacob Rees-Mogg with Alternative to Sterling

A bespoke cryptocurrency has been created for the chair of the European Research Group Jacob Rees-Mogg – the 'Mogg Coin'.

The cryptographic token was recently minted on the Ethereum blockchain to provide a Brexit-ready alternative to sterling following the Eurosceptic MP's classification of Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, as an "enemy of Brexit."

Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin were developed specifically to remove the need for a central bank. Mogg Coin (MOGG) was conceived as a 'nuclear option' for the Honourable Member for the 18th century – to be deployed if Carney and the Bank continue to thwart efforts to take back control. With his own tyranny-resistant coin, Rees-Mogg may find negotiations on World Trade Organisation tariffs more straightforward. Further, it raises the possibility of conversion back to imperial measurements from the metric system.

Since its launch in 2009, Bitcoin has triggered an explosion in digital currencies and cryptographic tokens utilising the underpinning technologies now more commonly known as Blockchain. In particular, the Ethereum blockchain has proved an extremely popular vehicle for launching tokens as a result of its developer-friendly standards. MintMyToken was the service used to launch the Mogg Coin - a tool that allows anyone, regardless of technical ability, the opportunity to mint their own cryptocurrency.

Broadhaven Co-founder Alasdair Macdonald said, "We are blockchain enthusiasts and want the widest number of people to learn about, use and experiment with this new technology. MinyMyToken allows anyone to create a digital token for any purpose in 2 clicks. The crypto community largely consists of either developers or speculators – leaving most people excluded. This tool opens access to anyone – including Mr Rees-Mogg."

The tool can be accessed at www.mintmytoken.com. More information and inspiration on token minting can be found at the Broadhaven.tech Medium blog. (https://medium.com/@broadhaven.tech)
